I hate to ask but has anyone got any garlic cloves to spare please,
I have tried everywhere and no one seems to have any.
I've even been told by "helpful" staff to try my local supermarket :o
You should see their faces when I explain I don't want to eat it :P
I have a list of seeds on the Tesco vouchers thread to swap in return.
Oh, one more thing !
When do you plant it :o ??? (I know, I am ashamed of myself ???)
Think you are too late for garlic - I planted mine oct -nov and a bit in january. It really needs planting before march - the earlier the better really or it doesnt clove.
Plant it in the autumn. You can get really good garlic here: http://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/ , or try the swops board. I'm suspicious of garden centre garlic; the ones round here sell mingy little bulbs that have no chance or producing anything decent.
Thats what I suspected , Olive oil.
Robert , thanks for the link, I have added this to my bookmarks and will get the Autumn lot ordered from here
pg has kindly agreed to send me some cloves to see if I can get anything even at this late stage ;)
I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks all for taking the time to answer :)
have a 'heap' of Garlic cloves already with little green shoots.
Bought them at our Village Flower and Veggie auction last Tuesday, whole lot (must have been 2 Kg or more) cost 10 p .... yes 10 new pence.
About a third had no shoots and were nice and firm, so they are in the eating pile, some given away and some are in the ground, to see what happens ;D
A few went into the compost, dry and/or mouldy, but you are welcome to some of the remainder, send me a PM if interested
Don't think I need anything for swaps ..... please don't tempt me ;D
Mikey
Asda in Smethwick were still selling horrible little garlic bulbs for planting today. Even if you got them in at the right time, they'd still be far too small to produce anything worthwhile.
If you are still interested I have some, It is the spring sown type rather than autumn one.
they often say here that if they do not amount to much use as green garlic, which I think
means fresh. could always suck it and see!
Put them in the fridge for a day or two - they'll think there's been a frost. ;)
mikey and markfieldrover,
I dont want to sound gready but I cook everything with garlic in it (smelly b***r) ;D ;D ;D
I will take you both up on your kind offers, but would feel a lot better if you would take something in return.
Markfieldrover you have already sent me Tesco vouchers and refused a swop
in return , so I owe you big time ;)
I'll pm you both
Thanks
