Title: Courgette daft question
Post by: BarbaraGood on April 28, 2007, 18:31:18
They are about 8" long, in pots, was intending to keep them in til Mid May then plant out. Do they spread across the ground?! Or do I have to support them? Told you it was daft  ;D I think I must hold the record for daft questions!

actually,it's not daft at all,  you can get both, ours are green bush., which is a bush.and tondo, which will climb so it depends on what type you've got  :)

Aha Iam glad its not so daft, but I am none the wiser! I got a load of seeds from Lidl as I am starting out and wanted to keep costs down, but they don't appear to be very common! They are Diamant Hybrids....

never heard of them..if they seem to be going long, I would imagine they are trailers, perhaps someone else has grown them..we've got lots of lidl seeds as well..good, aren't they?  ;D

They have gone LOOPy, if that's a sign of being good, then yes  ;D

I will wait and see what they look like WANT to do, surely climbers will have some little tendrils to attach to a cane/whatever? Or maybe they are not so clever!!

Yep, those that sprawl can also be tied in to structures.....last year I'd some dinky wooden fencing I'd salvaged ::) so grew one along that. Neat trick 8)

I had to plant my cougettes out last weekend - as they'd become giants and we didn't have any bigger pots!!! They are doing ok at the mo - but will be covering them tomorrow with bubble wrap, just in case. Also had to plant out a couple of my Turk's Turbans, as, like the cougettes, I just didn't have any pots big enough. Think I planted a little too early - but have a few more cougettes coming on just in case I lose them. Think mine are 'Gold rush.' First time I've grown this variety, so have no idea if they are bush or trailers.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but  I am Pretty sure Diamante F1 is a pickling  cucumber not a courgette XX Jeannine

I think you will probably  find it listed under gherkins in the UK not pickling cucumber

Not so much trail Knb but as the new fruit/flowers are further up the stem it tends to be top heavy and lean over....

I grew Diamant from Lidl last year.  It was a bush type courgette and cropped well.

It was a bit of a surprise package though, as we got dark green and strippy light green courgettes all from the same pack of seeds.  All tasted good though, so I was quite pleased to get a bit of variety - all for 49p ;D
