Please can anyone tell me where I can get a good all purpose knife for multi purpose use at the lottie......have tried garden centres & my local hardware store but these days, they're no longer allowed to sell them....have found a Stanley Knife useful for cutting up sections of the old carpet still covering a lot of my plot but want something with a longer blade that can be used for many other things....suppose the sort of thing I'm thinking of (from back in my younger days) is a scout type of knife where you can do almost anything with all the attachments....guess that will mean somewhere like a camping store (if they're still allowed to sell them) which will mean a special trip into the town...has anyone any recommendations please...thanks in advance - H.P. :)
Hi HP, there's a camping shop on the Basingstoke Road opposite Safeways in Reading. I'm sure that has what you need.
Hi Ross....thanks for that info...is it anywhere near the turn off for P.C. World....I rarely go that way - hate that road - once I turn out of Hartland Road, which is the way I always go (if I have to) do I turn right or left...sorry to be a pain but I really am a coward about going on roads I don't know, get in a panic!
Talking of Vikings (which I noticed on your message box) I've just come back from a wonderful cruise of the Norwegian Fjords - so beautiful, went on the m.v. Van Gogh - had a fantastic time - the only viking tho that I brought back with me is a little hairy one now attached to my 'fridge ;D
Turn right out of Hartland Road, up the Basingstoke Road, past Gilette factory on left, past Harvester on right, at crossroads (with Safeways on left) -either go left and park in Safeways then walk across the road OR go straight on and then just after crossroad turn right into small parking area in front of shops (Chinese takeaway, camping shop, bookies and a Barclays bank on the end)
Oh Ross...thanks so much for making it so clear for me...
it's just occured to me tho...that I'm going into Caversham on Friday, which I know like the back of my hand!... and if they're still there - Carters on the Caversham Road would also be an ideal place....H.P.
;D Got my knife - Swiss Army style - what a lot of things I could do with it!!....apart from the obvious necessity (a blade) it's also got a corkscrew and bottle opener - what more could I want....mind you if I start opening bottles - wont get much work done will I?...only kidding - only take bottles of water with me! - ???
OT, but never mind.
I used to enjoy taking VIP visitors to our projects in Yemen; of course we had to visit local notables, ----- and be served with inevitable bottles of Coke.
For all that it was back in the days of Cold War and the like, did you know that the ammunition magazine on a Kalashnikov makes an excellent bottle opener? Armed tribesman whips off said magazine, and opens all the bottle.
VIP eyes pop out on stalks, cartoon fashion!
All best - Gavin
