Title: Protecting my plums - without a jock strap
Post by: jollyroger123 on April 25, 2007, 22:18:43
I have a victoria plum tree - Planted last year.

I had one bud last year which disapeared.  This year i have loads and was wondering if you have to protect them from anything eg birds.

If so whats the best method,

Thanks

Wasps can be a nuisance in the autumn when the fruits are ripe, but apart from that, they should be all right.

I now have a Victoria plum tree bought mail-order from one of the major seed etc retailers. I planted it out as soon as it arrived in about Feb, I think, but a couple of months on, it looks now different from when it arrived. It has buds but should they be bursting into leaf/flower by now? I accept that it might have been 'set back' a bit by it's transportation but not sure if it's alive or dead.

sprout,

it may be dead :(

it should have blossomed and then come into leaf

with your finger nail try peeling a bit off the stem if it is green it is still alive, hope this helps /shades x

Yeah mines has flowered and now the little buds are left the foliage is looking great.  I'm assuming the little buds will form the plums.  Will birds eat them ?
