Title: Obituary for a printer ..
Post by: Trixiebelle on April 25, 2007, 16:24:36
And thus it came to pass ...

Trixiebelle ran out of room on the windowsills for seedlings and balanced a tray of Neckar Gold beans & Tomatillos on top of her printer.

Water, soil, electricity and clumsy cats, unfortunately, do not co-exist happily :(

It is with great sadness that I announce the untimely demise of my Lexmark X3480.

EULOGY:

Lexmark!

You were only young and your ending was unfortunate and entirely due to human/feline error.

But let's face it ..... you were a CR*P printer.

Your black print was a shoddy shade of grey and your (so-called) photo printing abilites were less than adequate. In fact they were also CR*P.

Nevertheless, we celebrate your short life by planting a tomatillo seedling in your ink cartridge holder-hole and making a substantial insurance claim.

Rest in peace little electrical friend  :)

Anyone got any recommendations for a DECENT printer???? Oh hark at me ... it's body is still warm  ;D

I feel your pain Trixiebelle !

However it (almost) served you well, and deserves a punt on freeserve (SOMEONE will have it) !

We're another subscriber to Epson (buggar paying full price for cartridges, we can get Epson cheap).  Our last erm .......... 6 printers have been Epsons (we used to go through them quicker than the cartridges lol).  Our current beast is a Photo R245 and it does us.

RIP wee Lexmark.  You will never be forgotten.

I like my HP printer/scanner/copier - amazing how often the copier bit comes in handy.

Trixie. I hope you know I have just spent £69 on a new board for my tower (what ever that may mean I just handed the money over to son) and should this computer blow up because I have just spurted a mouth full of tea at it I know who to blame, Please give advance warnings for any future posts that make me go in to laughter mood.

I got my lovely (and as yet unabused) printer from a lovely lady on freecycle. It was delivered (like I say - LOVELY lady - I don't drive!)....along with a three tier cast iron planter she had going spare....(did I tell you just how lovely she was?!?).

As for the expensive cartridges???? I bought some cheap refilled ones off ebay (check the feedback to reassure as to quality), and sold the empty original cartridges to the refilling company, thus only costing me about £7 in total for new, full (but non-kosher) black and full-colour cartridges.

Have no complaints as to print quality (used to work for a photographer too!). And I have sourced lexmark refill kits in my local poundshp for when the colours fade. (Bonus!)

Love your seedlings.....sacrifice the printer......check your freecycle.

HAHAHAH Trixie - priceless!

As for printers, we tend to have whatever the old mans company are chucking out.  Ours is a HP, which is crap, we have a Dell colour one, which is okay, but the refills didn't work so now it prints in a curious mish mash of colours and the kids have an Epsom which seems to have run low on yellow and everything comes out a strange shade of magenta.  ;D

Surprised there isn't a mountain of printers with empty catridges, because it can prove cheaper to buy a new printer with ink installed, than to pay to replace the cartridges.

Wonderful eulogy.  Beats the time son no 1 poured coca cola into my HP Inkjet causing its demise.  Big thumbs up for my current although elderly Canon i560 printer.  Lexmark are pants!
