Title: Partridge silkie bantams
Post by: Heldi on April 24, 2007, 14:17:01
Here are our new additions. they are about 20 weeks. Two hens and a cockerel. One of the hens is laying dinky eggs.  My son wanted silkies so now he's got them. Funny looking things aint they !  Five toes anorl...weird!
They look like they need a bath to me but OH thinks I'm just being silly.  Anyone ever bathed a hen before???!!

awww very sweet. My partridge hen is more gold than yours.

They do actually like being bathed  - warm water in the sink, bit of washing up liquid and a good rinse. Afterwards wrap them up in a towel and get the hairdryer on them on warm - they really love that!

"You're d**n right!"  As my OH keeps saying cos he thinks one of them looks like Shaft.

I think the cockerel looks like Ronnie Wood. My son has named them though and their names are  Cockerel ...Jazz.  Shaft hen is Clara and other hen (who is way way petite) Harriet.

Toot wanted to call the cockerel "Helmut" PMSL !

Slash!  Love that.spesh as I lurve the guns n roses.

OO I'm so pleased I asked about bathing. I'm going to show OH your reply and get them a little spa treatment going on.

I put them outside two days after we got them...they did nowt. No scratching no pecking,no nothing. Is this silkie behaviour or am I right in suspecting they've not been out before? I even wondered if they've been taken away from their mum before she could teach them what to do? Of even if they ever had a mum or mother figure?

Eee they are funny but they look so dirty and unkempt, bless their feathery hair dos!

Not put them with the others yet because I don't know what Mr Honker will do. He's a placid bird...very hen pecked but not seen him deal with newbies before. Plus they (the big gang) are confined to barracks at the mo until the lotty is planted and the plants are big enough to withstand a pecking. Might have to wait until Mr Honker goes to his new abode across the way. I will miss him ..the big goose that he is.
