Title: Using netting
Post by: cambourne7 on April 23, 2007, 17:19:02
HI Guys,

Quick question for you.

I want to know how you hold down the netting on there plots.

I have a wooden frame built over most of my beds ( 3ft above the beds ) and i now need to add the netting.

As the sites windy i need to work out how to hold the netting down.

I was thinking of using hook and eyes around the bed to hold the netting down.
or
Sowing the end of the netting to bamboo and hook the bamboo into place at the ends of the beds?

Whats the best way to mange with netting that will allow me to easly lift the netting and reuse it.

Hi Louise,
If you can get some round fencing wire (about 4 to 5mm) and make some pegs with the top looped over and push it into the ground. One side should be approx. 8" long and the other about 3".

I use the same method but have both sides 8 inches long with a U-bund at the top. I push them into the ground parallel with my paths and few raised beds. They ain't in the way then.

A quick solution for me was, ( before I found Allotments 4 all) was to tack a few nails in the side of my raised beds and hook the net over them.  A cane thread through the bottom of the net makes the operation reasonably simple.  I will strive to become a little more sophisticated in the future!
