This healthy looking, weighty fox expired on my neighbours patch and the only sign of injury was a wound on the tail.
Could it have died of blood poisoning?

it doesn't look as though it's got a full coat - mange? I believe that urban foxes have a life expectancy of only 2 yrs or thereabouts..odd that it didn't crawl away to die, tho..
Awwww :(
All sorts of things could have killed it; they don't live long, and their existence is pretty marginal. Beetles and worms are a very important part of the diet at some times of year, and there won't have been many of the latter around recently with the dry weather.
:( Poor Foxy. :'(
Poor thing :'(
I have been told that foxes dig in areas that have blood, fish and bone in, which if they eat will burn their throat - I suppose that could be a cause of death if they had a very bad reaction to it.
