Title: There are times when cooking just aint worth the trouble.
Post by: Jeannine on April 22, 2007, 21:04:17
I have just handed my husband a rather nice dessert, a crumble in fact.

"Mmm "he goes, "great rhubarb."

"It is apple and banana with cinnamon" says I.

"Oh, it tastes just like rhubarb."

Some times I wonder why I bother.

Maybe I should try it as no rhubarb this year - new crowns & little spindly stems.  :(

Mine too!  Moved it last November and it seemed OK ish, someone said put a collar of manure around it, then fellow plotholder said "it's planted too deep, crowns need to be above the level of the ground, just lift it, back fill and it'll be better than ever".  Another fellow plotholder said to me today "I watered your rhubarb today cos it looked so sad for itself".   :(

Receipe for banana, apple and cinnamon crumble please!

I don't have a recipe actually. I had 4 eating apples a bit soft and two overripe bananas. I mushed the bananas, sliced the apples, chucked in some cinnmon ..guessing about 1/2 teaspoon and added  a bit of sugar. Microwaved it 5 minutes. Mixed crumble topping.  I do it like this.

By volume I do.I portion of butter...double it with sugar....double again with flour
eg 1/2 cup butter..1 cup sugar...2 cups flour.

I put on as much as the apple mixture looks like it needs and chuck the rest in the freezer.

Not very scientific, but it works for me.

I do the same sor of thind with rhubarb, peaches etc.

Sorry but I am a sorta chuck it in the pot gal when it comes to crumbles.

Just couldn't resist googling - and found the Crumbles book on Amazon Marketplace for the princely sum of £1 (plus £2.75 postage).

I have so many cook-books Jeannine - I don't know whether I should say thank you for mentioning the crumbles book - or not  ;D  ;D.

Looking forward to some new crumble recipes in a few days time  8) 8)  -salivating already.
