does anyone know where I can obtain seed of this tom?
I think it was called Japanese Noire Truffle or did I dream it?
I've e- mailed Raymond but he probably thinks I'm crazy!
was on Gardeners World last night,
thanks / shades x
Shades was it Japanese Trifiel,I have seen that somewhere, I will find it for you XX Jeannine
Shades, Japanese Black Trifele, the size and shape of a Bartlett pear.Fruit is perfect, smooth and no cracks. The flavour is absolutely sublime having all the richness of fine chocolate.
Is this it, I ordered it but it was back ordered on me,supposed to be still coming though,I will send them an e mail XX Jeannine
Available from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds,Missouri. rareseeds.com
this also comes up with seed fest when googling it DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM OR ANYONE CLAIMING TO BE ANIOLEKA SEEDS COMPANY you will not get your seeds
I would like to try some next year - maybe with such publicity a UK supplier will have them. Was a bit worried that he really hated the Italian plum [can't remember its name - begins with M] so much cos I've got 12 plants cos i want to grow them for passata - didn't think it was meant to be eaten raw.
yep, if its picked up at chealsea then thats a given.
I have just checked my order with Baker Creek, they were back ordered but there was a note attached to what they did send saying shipping would be delayed by 2 weeks maximum. I got the order on Wednsday so they should be here in less than the two weeks. I ordered half an ounce of seeds so will have loads.
Cambourne, Anioleka trade under 2 names, I am very aware of them by the way, they are not to be trusted.Louise is right do not buy from them, (I will go offline and find the second name and post it too.)
]Anioleka and Roguelands are the same company
Baker Creek,on the other hand which is rareseeds.com are considered in the top 10 in the US and are a super company, I buy a lot of seeds from them and they have never once proved a problem to me. I have dealt with them for 9 years.I would recommend them very very highly.
XX Jeannine
...good tip i have bookmarked the recomendation.
i cant believe that seedfest are going back on ebay!!!
Just looked on rareseeds.com. I had no idea there were so many varieties! How am I supposed to curb my seed obsession with such sites out there?
I'm just off to look up the number for seed collectors rehab......
cj :)
you dont want to revisit this tread then

so much choice!!
I have to admit I have that catalogue. I have spent many an evening ooogling the long french beans and amazing varieties of lettuce. And is it healthy to have so many varieties of radish?!?
The only shame is the cost of postage. I am just going to look this year, and will treat myself to an order next spring. I can hardly wait!!!
It is also good to see pics of some of the seed varieties I have had from seed swaps, as they usually come without a packet.
cj :)
yep i am the same ( not that i need more seeds ) but i am hoping that i can place one big order with other allotment holders :-)
Hi Caroline, Hi Cambourne.
Caroline. You are so lucky with the catalogue,I tried and couldn't get one.
Cambourne,If you ever want anything from rareseeds I order all the time and it is i shot postage. Let me know and I can include yours with mine.
XX Jeannine
DONT TEMPT ME ;)
Well you know truthfully, I have just the seeds as mentioned to come from Baker Creek and I doubt I will order again till the end of the year so you are quite safe for now. XX Jeannine
phew!! my husband and bank manager thank you!!
Jeannine, if you like, when it comes to ordering time, could post you my catalogue, and if you want anything, we could order together.
Cambourne, you could always join in too if you wanted.
cj :)
I tried growing Janese Black Triffele last year but they died... This year I'm trying again. 3 out of 3 germinated and growing well. Somehow two of them are potato leaved and one is normal leaved. Is this normal?
If I have a success this year with them I will save seeds and offer them on Swap Shop. :)
What was the other tomatos Raymond liked?
;D
thanks so much for your replies and help,
can I please be included in any ordering you do,Cam,Caroline and Jeannine?
at no 2 in the taste test was Marmande, 3rd was Yellow Brandywine,
Marymary, the plum was San Marzano, agreed you don't eat it raw, it makes good sauces :)
thanks for your detective work Jeannine! /shades x
Hi Shades, do you think we could still plant these seeds when they come, it is getting a bit late?
I was really surprised when I looked in my stash that I didn't have them as I have practically all the blacks, but then realised. If Baker Creek are true to their word they could evn be here next week as they may well be on their way. If not we will have had it as it usually takes about 3 weeks.I have e mailed them but they don't work weekends.
I was going to leave then till next year anyway but you have got me going now.
I do have two of the yellow brandwines here by the way, Yellow Brandywine and Yellow Brandywine Platfoot strain.
XX Jeannine
Hi
I might be intrested nearer the time :-) thanks for the offer.
Personaly given global warming etc i would still go for having a try to plant things out of season...
Another new one to try?-grief,I can`t keep up. I don`t have room to grow them all every season so no yellow Brandywine this year but it`s a cracker
Which one?
Somehow two of them are potato leaved and one is normal leaved. Is this normal?
Can`t speak for the variety mentioned but some `heritage` varieties do that-Brandywine for example-and Black Krimm
I meant which yellow brandywine is the cracker XX Jeannine
Thanks Shades of course it's San Marzano - my memory isn't what it used to be! I'm hoping they make lovely passata which is what I want them for.
Jeannine how many different tomatoes are you growing this year? I've got some new-to-me ones from the pass the parcel which I'm really looking forward to [think some of them may have originated from you] but I am still growing some blight resistant as well ones just in case.
I put my first batch in their final place today,32 plants.2 each of 16 varieties.

I still have a few others that I may put out that were sent to me recently but right now I am stuck for space in starter house. And I am hoping the Jap Triffele makes it in time. It isa new one to me,and a black which I adore trying
XX Jeannine
Which ones did you get in the swap? XX Jeannine
;D hi Jeannine,
I don't think it will be to late grow Jap T , I sowed Paul Robeson,Carbon,Orange Russian, Blue Fruit,Yellow Brandywine..platfoot strain last week(thanks Jeannine!)
and they are up;
also sowed Black Cherry and Tommy Toe.. also up,
made a new raised bed at lottie as I now have far to many plants, but still sowing more ::) :P :-X /shades x
Hey Shades you've sown more of my new ones than I have XXXX Keep your fingers crossed,we did OK withe the carrotts.
Jeannine,
I have started to harden off some of mine by putting them outside in the sun during the day, making sure they are sheltered from any breeze. They all seem happy - except Big Beef, which wilts very quickly once outside, so I'm not putting those out any more just yet.
Is BB usually a bit of a wuss? Or have I misunderstood, and is it not an outdoor variety?
I always grow it in the greenhouse here, I grew it outside in BC but the weather is warmer, not damp like here and the growing season is longer. If there is a good dry long summer I think it would be just fine. XX Jeannine
i am really disapointed none of my chillis and tomatos have taken, i am going to give then one more week then try again.
:'(
Cambourne have none of your toms come up at all, that is really odd.Which seeds did you use, were they old do you think or saved seed. XX Jeannine
Hi
I planted 15 toms and 15 chillis along with 10 mixed herbs and flowers and 10 plants that inc pumpkins, squash and courgettes.
Only one of the flower/herbs has popped up.
I can only think that either i let them dry out or they have not had enough heat.
All the other plants ( ie stuff on other shelves and other trays on the same shelf) have popped up which is really strange!!
Cambourne7
Cambourne may I send you some new seeds, if you are goint to re plant let me send you some of my ones thst are hard to get here.Y ou can plant your own as well, might make up for the let down a wee bit if you have something new to play with. I will be arouns a while longer. XX Jeannine
many thanks for the offer Jeannine, i think i have enough for another go :-)
If this lot fail then i will be back..
I know part of the problem is that there is no cover on my mini greenhouse, i have it wrapped in plastic sheeting but this is a little hit and miss. I am fed up trying to get homebase to get back to me about getting a new cover.
I think i am going to push forward with making my own mini greenhouse with the hard plastic i have and sow the seeds on the allotment.
Can you not start them in the house in a wee propogator,it doesn't have to be heated, anyway think about it,PM me if you change your mind I have lots to choose from XX night night XX Jeannine
Thanks Angle Shades and Cleo. ;)

What is wrong with Roguelands? I tried to order from them a month or so ago, they quoted me then never got back to me. I am thinking now I may have got away lightly!

You did!
Luckily my order was small, just the Black Trifole, so only lost £2.40. :'(
If you want the details on these 2 companys have a look

I think you did get away lightly, many people have not got there orders. Bad scene there. XX Jeannine
:)
I've just had a reply to my e-mail to Raymond Blanc from his head gardener Anne Marie Owens :o
she says the seed for Japanese N T is available from plants of distinction and given me the e-mail address.
Its not in this years catalogue, I will e-mail them and see what happens/ shades x
I grew Japanese Black Trifelle last year, they were ugly suckers but tasted brilliant, sadly I planted the last of the seeds this year - does anybody know if it's F1??
Helen
No it is definitely not XX Jeannine
Fab, I should be able to help out with the predicted seed shortage next year then :-)
Thanks

Thanks Cambourne
I have such a bad memory, I even posted on it twice! ;)
I emailed Roguelands a few weeks ago, they quoted me, and I haven't heard anything since. Maybe they have gone into hiding from all of the disgruntled customers!
contact the company you paid via ccpay i think and they will refund you.
cambourne, your inbox is full
I have a message here waiting to be sent :)
I have just received a conformation e mail that my tom seeds have indeed been shipped,so should be here soon. I had ordered 1/4 ounce as I often do so I will have some extras if anyone is really keen XX Jeannine

Cleo,
Modern (non-potato leaved) varieties tend to have closed flowers which effectively self pollinate before insetcs can get into the flower to bring in foreign pollen.
Potato leaved varieties tend to have open flowers so there is more danger of cross pollination, hence it may be that one (or is 2) of them is (are) rogues
Phil
These seeds have arrived today, I will get them in the post to the couple of folks I promised to XX Jeannine
:)
Thanks, I will sow on arrival, how about you, going to risk it?/shades x
Yes, I will sow and do you carrotts as well XX Jeannine
