Title: Cucumber plant problem
Post by: Stevens706 on April 21, 2007, 11:33:33
Something is wrong with my cucumber plants, the leaves are loosing their colour, starting out at the edge and drying out like paper. The plants did this when they were on the window sill and are still doing it now they are in the greenhouse, the plants are still growing and producing new green leaves,

can anyone let me know what’s wrong?

this is my first attempt at growing cucumbers.

Where are they now?

Sounds like they are close to glass and are being scorched with intense sunlight.

Try shading them with a bit of fleece between them and the glass during intense sunlight, remove it when the weather conditions are less sunny.

You mention other green leaves are forming so it suggests to me it can only be something along these lines.

mine are doing that too...
I've planted them out into grow bags today as I was wondering if they were getting a little pot bound. They seem healthy enough in every other aspect, and new leaves are growning as you said... fingers crossed I guess :)

I have no idea how much water they like either, was wondering if I was over or under doing it?

I think I will sow some more just in case as a back up.

The book says to water little and often to keep the compost / soil moist but not waterlogged and to damp down the greenhouse path to make the air humid. I’m trying all these things.

put a 2 pint bottle upside down with no bottom, water into the bottle, nothing on the plant, only the roots  :)
