Title: Watering Asparagus
Post by: Barnowl on April 20, 2007, 13:38:32
A neighbour's gone away for a fortnight and given us the run of his asparagus bed.

How much water should we give them?

dare I say it, but none if they are established. If newly planted, give them a good weekly watering.
Did they say you could have any spears which appear?

Agree - but remember that the roots are 5" down - needs a lot of water to reach them.

I've given mine a liquid feed today (rotted comfrey water ... and it didn't arf PONG)
Otherwise I never water it.

Have they only gone for a fortnight? I'd be tempted to phone the travel agents and cancel their return tickets 'til the asparagus has finished  ;D

I have put lots of manure under my asparagus and presumably that is what every one else does. There therefore shold be no need to water.
I certainly do not want to have to water mine.
