Sorry I felt the need for a thread all of my own so I can be really loud about my seedlings. I planted some Gardeners Delight convinced that I had left it a bit too late but they were free seeds from a couple of magazines so thought what the hey.
I planted the first packet with 10 seeds all neatly in a pot and then planted the other packet with about 50 seeds(!) any old how in a couple of pots with the view that if only a few grew I would be happy.
I had 6 seedlings in the neat pot downstairs last night and the others should be along in a couple of days, only problem is now I can see me with about 50 tomato plants and not enough room for them all :o but I'm just happy they grew! ;D
Oops! But congratulations - it's wonderful when seeds start to grow, isn't it? I still find it exciting!
So how many friends have you got? Everyone's got room for a tomato or two. I regularly give loads away. (A few years back, a friend was raising money to take a relief lorry to Kosovo. I charged 20p per plant and was able to send him a cheque for nearly £30!)
Glad some else gets excited when seeds germinate. I feel so proud I manage to grow stuff still, even if they die later on or I don't get a decent crop from them, nothing beats that initial satisfaction of seeing them break through the soil!
You will have to be hard when it comes to pricking them out - survival of the fittest. which is something I am terrible at, I would probably end up with 50 plants...
Yep stick an advert in the paper - the free section advertising tom plants... they sell for 50p each down the market!
Well done - exciting isnt it when they emerge!
We have over 150 in thirty varieties and still some to prick out but we are having a sale!
:o
Came home from work to find all my downstairs tomatoes out and 2 tiny specks of Thyme, upstairs no tomatoes yet but my salad leaves have one or two shoots starting to show ;D
Will really have to get organised now, need to find somewhere for them to live!
My turnips, little gem, webb lettuce and radishes are all showing at the allotment but no sign of my carrotts or parsnips getting a little worried about these really.
My carrots have only just popped up! Don't know what happened to the first sowing, and overwintered will produce all of 3 ::)
Saw somewhere about sinking a spade to full depth then rocking in backwards and forwards along the bed until you had a "v" shaped trench, then fill with compost and sow. This will be my method from now to eternity...
I've got 50 tomato plants & I'm keeping them they're all mine he he he ;D ;D
Just waiting on the last 2 pots of Tomatoes, they were planted a few days after everything els so should show this weekend. I want to put more things in now....
