Hi,
My purple sprouting broccoli is sprouting with a vengeance. Which is the best way to freeze it? I've tried blanching but it's limp within seconds :o. Any recipes would be very much appreciated as well (already has Broccoli Surprise!).
Thanks
I Just froze the flowerets straight from the plant when I grew psb two years ago. It was fine - I steamed it from frozen.

Ihabe only done Raab not PSB but they are very similar.Blanch for 1 minute ,no more and be sure the water is at a full rolling boil, in and out then cool immediately in very cold water. That should be OK and it will stop the enzymes XX Jeannine
Quoteit will stop the enzymes
Why do you need to stop the enzymes?
cj :)
Blanching inactivates the enzymes which help veggies grow and mature.Even frozen veggies will deteriate within a month if enzyme action is allowed to continue .Veggies would undergo undesireable changes, they become tougher, lose their colour and flavour.Blanched green veggies have a more vivid colour once the enzyme is killed. Blanched veggies will be Ok in the freezer for 9-12 months.

Who's a clever girl then?

You are!!
Thank you for my PSB which arrived today.
Have you sown yours yet?

I planted some seed in the lottie a few weeks ago, which just poked their heads up yesterday. About a week ago, I put some into loo roll tubes in the greenhouse as insurance. Apparently they do well if encouraged to make long roots. Thought I would give it a go (and I am a bit short on pots as my mother has borrowed loads).
I hope the seed grow and grow!
