Title: Raab cima di rapa - brocolletto
Post by: miniroots on April 17, 2007, 11:49:14
Is anyone else growing this one?
It's apparently like a salad leaf, but with little brocolli-like sprouts

I'm assuming that once you nip out the first sprout then it starts to produce off-shoots?

I've got some but haven't sown it yet. I was going to sow a line straight into the bed. Look forward to answers, meanwhile I'd better do some more homework

I grew some last year and it was like sprouting broccoli if I remember rightly...?

But much quicker cropping?  Did you nip the tops to encourage side growth, or just let it grow straight... and how tall did it get?

Yes, cropped in the same year.  I didn't do anything with it, other than let it grow!  It was all a bit experimental last year so I just chucked it into a trough (didn't have my plot then) and let it grow.  I think it was about 1 - 1.5 foot high...  But  maybe in proper ground, ie not a pot, it might grow bigger.  Was nice though, will be doing it again if I ever get round to sowing it!

It came as a freebee with a magazine last year. It was ready when I returned from holiday in late July. So was a hundredweight of other stuff, including courgettes, that end to end would have stretched round the plot, so I composted it!

Raab grows quickly and looks like PSB, it will not grow in the cold though like PSB does. I love it... we always called it Wok Broc. XX Jeannine
