I planted 3 Orla tubers in a compost bag on 13th Feb in my unheated greenhouse. I've been topping up with compost as they have grown, but wWith all this sun & heat, they have nearly reached the top of the bag already! When can I expect to get a crop, and does it matter if I can't earth them up any more?
forgive me if I'm stating the obvious but would it be better to move the bag out of the green house and into some shade, I'm no expert but if its the heat thats doing it would that be an answer?
Might be a bit too heavy to move now?
never had much success with spuds in bags, mostly because I have never been able to water them enough - so maybe provide some sort of support for the haulms and water copiously
Thanks. I moved the bag (before it got any heavier!) out of the greenhouse yesterday so hopefully that will slow it down. Any ideas on an expected date for harvesting?

Roughly ten weeks after the first sign of leaves above soil level
I can't say I have heard of Orla so I am assuming it is a 1st Early
So back tracking on the information given;
You sowed them 13/2 which is week 7
Say three weeks to emerge; = week 10
Therefore they should be ready about week 20 = Mid May.
Thats the best I can do I am afraid different varieties can vary by a few weeks.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, TG. Yes, it is a first early, got it from Alan Romans. Growing in a bag for the first time as an experiment to hopefully get some extra early spuds, but not sure it's worth it!
