Title: My poor Sunflowers
Post by: Joe11 on April 14, 2007, 15:22:32
Well, i planted some sun flowers in pots about a months ago now, but with in the last week two of the stems have just split from the bottom up to the first set of leaves. Just wondering if any one has any idea what would be causing this to happen?

Cheers
Joe

I think that is due to irratic watering.  Happened to me last year.  This year I have been more careful, growing them hard keeping them cool, and keeping them moist.  So far so good.

Depending where you are sounds like you sowed too early. I sowed mine today in a coldframe (in the east midlands).

Cor keen maincs!  I thought they were similar to toms and beans....not until May.  Wish I could get mine out as they are now about 7 inches tall - keen daughter!  I will be sowing lots more next week when the kids are back at school.

Mine have germinated in pots and odd corners of the garden where the mice population stored them overwinter.  Problem is, I don't know what's coming up where.
