YEAH ;D ;D! Just like last year, it's Red Duke of York which poked through the soil first.
:o Blimey, that's early isn't it? We've got rdoy in, will be keeping a closer eye on them from now on!
just earthed kestrel up ;D
Eeek, we must have planted late then!
I planted RDOY and Lady Christl mid March, the rest went in at the end of March. When did you plant Kestrel manicscousers?
Excellent!
manicscousers - really?? wow thats very early isnt it?
yes, we keep fleece handy ;D
very impressive, plot or pots?
plot..desiree not up yet but the premiere in the poly's got flowers starting !! ;D
Yup, my Kestrel are through. Only took them about 2 weeks to poke their noses through.
My rdoy also showed their heads this week. Its v. exciting ;D
Mine have only been in about 10 days but RDOY are usually first through along with Epicure and Ballydoon..
;D
Yep RDOY came up last weekend and as soon as i earth up they are through that too!
My Rocket have been through for about a week now, and i earthed up when i put them in! ( So i remembered where i planted them) ;D
Colleen - 29/3 - just showing.
no sign of mine yet, I planted them quite deeply.
I've got swift earthed up under fleece and straw and now they've come up through the extra layer of earth I layed down in a week! Cara are coming through as well and need earthing up. I planted early under lots of straw as I'm moving away from the plot :'(
can't believe it, desiree showing but only 2 :)
I've got six Arran Pilot showing - put them in early as an experiment as I got a net of ten from the pound shop.
My first earlies went in on 31/3 and so far zilch nada etc.... :'( :'( :'(
My first Aaron Pilot came through today. Been in since end of Feb. Only 3-4 but pleased all the same, never bothered with first earlies before. No sign of the kestrel yet though.
Putting in main crop and late main crop this weekend.
blimey we still haven't got all our pots in yet :o Pentland j's went in a fortnight ago tho, so might inspect them this weekend - pretty deep though & earthed up into mounds when we planted, so prob hoping for the moon on a stick x
Lady Chrystal earthed up twice and Majestic once :)
Off to plant PFA! :P ;D
My arran pilot in pots are showing but the ones in the plot are not as yet. I am running a competition with my 7 year old niece. 2 seed potatoes in very large pots filled with compost. See who gets the largest crop (by weight). Her's came up about 2 weeks before mine!!!!! She added rabbit droppings from her rabbit into the compost. Have no idea whether that is a good thing or not. They were fresh. Will have to see!
Can't keep up with my Orla in a compost bag- thik I'll have to moe them out of the greenhouse.
I can't WAIT until my first tattie shoots come through.
Not through any desire to taste them or be 'ahead of the game'.
My FIL has planted about 500'd weight of potatoes and I haven't got room for anything else 8)
Can't wait for the first little flowers and I'll dig the b***ers up! "Oooh look! Ickle baby new potatoes FIL, and now we can plant something ELSE where they were!"
Rocket, Accent and Colleen all through on the last couple of days - planted on March 16th.
Tim -noticed you are growing Colleen as well. Have you grown them before? If so, what are they like?
Planted Accent 4/3, heads come through two weeks ago, so I threw some strawed manure on the heads, I went away for four days and come back yesterday and they are up to about 3/4 inches high. The ones I put in pots in the greenhouse are 10/12 inches high so there should be some new potatoes in the next 3/5 weeks, slowly boiled with fresh mint and topped with melted butter yum. ;D ;D ;D
My row of International Kidney! Plan(http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/1089/lottie2007002eq9.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)ted 18th Feb, but tucked up under a cloche!
My Anya have been through about a week, followed by Mimi and then Ambo, the RDY appeared today. Still waiting on Edzell blues, Maris bard, Milva and Remarka.
We planted 6 tubers of each first earlies, 3 tubers of second earlies and 2 tubers of Main.
Today we bought 20 Robinta and 20 Cecile for the Lottie :)
RDoY, Swift and Lady Crystl all up.
No sign of Mimi yet, planted at the same time - is it because they're so teeny?
First leaves from Milva ,belle de Fontenay, Red D of Y and Intl Kidney showing this w.e.
- but only the trench planted row: the dibbed in row isn't showing anything yet.
Some of mine are coming up, would love to tell you what they were, but as usual
in my totally disorganised fashion, forgot to write down what went where! ::)
Oh well, its exciting all the same. ;D
This morning we managed to finish digging and prepare just enough space to plant our spuds at the allotment, they were planted this evening!! 40 potaoes (20 Robinta 20 Cecile) in 4 Rows.
Now to do some more digging adn decide what to plant next!!
Sue
Volunteers in beds of previous years potatoes popping up really well (thought I'd dug them all up!), but only one or two of the first earlies I put in about three weeks ago are showing (mulched with mushroom compost - is this a good idea or not?). Second earlies and main still to put in (over the next 2/3 weeks or when I find time).
My mystery potatoes (found on the allotment) are growing really well!! A good bunch of leaves!
My Sirtema and Roseval that I put in about 3 weeks ago have started showing through just now. I will wait till they get a bit bigger to put straw around them (I don't have time for all the hill-building business!).
But we do have milder weather here than in the UK, so I am a couple of weeks ahead I guess. I have my toms, courgettes and melons acclimatizing outside in a sheltered spot :D
