I've got lots of these self seeding in my garden, from those helicopter seeds, like a flat wing with a fat seed at the end. Are they good trees or weeds?

Are you sure they are Maple (Acer platanoides) & not Sycamore?

If they are Maple, a brilliant tree. We put this in in 1997 to replace a 100 year old Bramley which got Honey Fungus.

We needed shade urgently so bought a part grown tree at some expense.

Actually tim, you may be right!
May be a sycamore but the leaves look identical to yours in the pic, am going to do some research now  :D

It's a beauty tim, i love maples and have a purple leaved one (a baby tho') but love the colour of yours.  Might have to investigate the gc's for one like it (but much smaller obviously) ...  :o  ;D
