I have just taken the last of my beetroot out of storage. It weighs 732grams. Do yours grow as big or do you prefer them small?
There is a lot to be said for storing vegtables as it is a way of having produce all year round.

I have started a blog today, on

I don't know how I have time for gardening, but I do know that the only time I watch the telly is when the Reds are playing!
Prefer them small but agree about storing veg... still got three Crown Prince Squash to start...
;D
All i have left is one spagetti squash which i dont really like. We ate all the beetroot so i'm growing loads this year as we loved it!
One spagetti squash left over from Summer 2005, thought I would see how long it kept. Do store beetroot in sand in the shed.
used the last beetroot in the freezer at the weekend - last year was the best crop ever
I grow, Solist for baby beets, then a carrot shaped one for slicing and another for preserving. I chucked away some really big ones last year that didn't get picked on time, huge things, not so good on taste though. Xx Jeannine
Have grown Detroit 2 and Boltardy in previous years, neither of which get really big, but taste fine to me. Last year a chap on the allotment site gave me some Solo beets, which were huge but still very good tasting and tender. Here's the pic I posted: http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/joomla/smf/index.php?topic=22838.msg241747#msg241747
Meant to get some seed to try this year for myself but forgot. Never mind, always next year.
Wow! I can see a contest starting!
