Title: Chappy's pics
Post by: chappy on April 08, 2007, 22:44:16
I'm gonna do a few posts showing the progress of my crops as they develop so you can see how I'm getting on and get and feedback.

I'll start with some piccys of my nursery i.e. my windowsills :D.

These were taken a few weeks ago now when we had that little bit of snow, you can see it through the downstairs window.

In fact the soil space you can see through the window is my small plot.  Which is nearly ready as I spent today on my raised beds.  Then ran out of nails, knocking them together.  ::)

lol, quite easy to dig to be honest, as I think it's just top soil.  If you dig down about a foot you hit a layer of rubble.  As this originally had lawn on it, I reckon the council (originally a council property) would have added the rubble layer, put a small skimming of top soil and then laid the turf.

Hence the raised beds to give a bit more room for roots.

Will have to try and build up the humus in the soil i fill the beds with, manure and my compost (not fully composted yet though  :( ) etc.

ha, you're not wrong, I just wish i had a south facing one.  At least I can now get less tender stuff in my unheated greenhouse now we're got the warmer days and nights and a lot more light.

I have a lot of leggy seedlings due to not getting enough light through these windows. :(

Me too. All mine have definate lean but all seem to perk up once they go into mini greenhouse! I have one s/w facing so everything that needs the warmth goes there. I seem to get by but it's a blimmin' trial i tell ya! Can't wait to buy a house with big garden, greenhouse, enormous windowsills, porch, conservatory...sorry, did i drift off there?
