Hi all,
My aquadulce claudia (spelling may be dodgy) broad beans are looking good with lots of flowers forming ;D Is it a good idea to give them a feed of some sort to give them a boost?
Adrian.
Iv been feeding mine once a month with chicken pellets since they started to flower, and they look great - I even had my first pods off them down the lotty today. Not sure If its technically the right thing to do, but they look happy and tasted good! :) (PS no one else's look as good as mine yet, which brings me great satisfaction too! :) )
Feeding them will not do any harm but they shouldn`t need it really
My broad beans are flowering as well but flowers have set yet. I planted them in well manured soil and I agree they should not need feeding. There is a danger if you feed them that it may encourage excess green growth that will be liable to be damaged by winds and rain.
I took a photo today see it on-

I had a few pop up as volunteers in a raised wooden bed, strange as it was about 50 feet from last years, anyway instead of chucking them when I tidied the bed, I potted them, they got planted into the ground with my others which were in three inch pots this week, there was about 7, I wonder what they will be? Mine are looking really good this year but I planted closer together, lots of flowers too.
I gave the soil around mine a dusting of fish, blood and bone a week ago. :)
