Title: Got lots of sawdust - how to use it?
Post by: miked on April 04, 2007, 19:47:38
Hi - we have had a large line tree down and I have a lot (many barrow loads) sawdust. This was from the chainsaw cutting - so its not that 'course'. The question is how can i use this - as a mulch? Dug in? Or should I try to 'rot' in down in the compost? Other ideas?

Also I assume there's no problem in using the stuff.

Any ideas / advice appreciated.

I would suggest firstly as a mulch then you will find it will rot down on its own and possibly next year you could see what it is like for digging in.

I think if you put it in your compost heap it will take so long to rot down you may spoil an early supply of compost.

Def ok as a mulch... have a friend who does the old Chainsaw Massacre when trees come down on the lotties, he has a wood burning stove/heating...

depending on the trees it came from you culd try building a temp smoker and smoking some veg / meat. tried it once with a couple of large trout. 1 tasted good one fell off the rack and burnt to a frazzle.
You can then compost the ashes or dig them in
