This bit of sunshine has got me outdoors this last couple of days.
I have been given a raised bed in the communual tunnel the soil in it was rubbish so I filled it by using the material from one of my compost heaps.
I have fed & weeded the Japanese onions and both my varieties of garlic.
I did the same for the Strawberry bed.(see before & after)

It sounds terrible, but I am stuck on a weeks holiday in Nice, and have even been skiing today in the Southern Alps, about 90 minutes drive away, and all I can think of is getting back to the allotment. I was even ogling French plots from the bus which are no more advanced than ours, which goes to prove that it is hours of daylight that is the driving force, although temperature also helps.
When contributors talk about early sowing being pale and leggy it is the light that is the problem.
Back on Friday night to a three day weekend.

Very tidy Tee Gee. What is the white along the hunions? Sulphate of something to feed them? Curious as I know I should be feeding mine now, but can't remember what with!
Nice start, TeeGee, and great slides as always. I thought our lottie neighbour's onions were remarkably fast growing (ours have only the first few green tips showing) but then he confessed it was Japanese onions he had forgotten to put in a while back so he just did it a couple of weeks ago and they are growing faaast!
My strawberries have been "treated" like yours and I put in an extra row of Symphony which I got from Ken Muir as they are recommended for the North and Scotland - looking perky today in the sun!!
Also put in some Charlotte potatoes and the bigger amount of Lady Christl will go in tomorrow.
Nice to get in to the swing of things again anyway :D

Is this a quiz? I think that there is no white stuff, but drier undisturbed soil wher the hoe could not get.

The 'white stuff' is just weathered soil where I didn't hoe (as has been mentioned)
The Sulphate you are looking for is 'Sulphate of Ammonia'
I am trying a different 'nitrogen feed' this year (it fell off a lorry) it is Nitrate of Soda.

Lovely pictures! It's great to see everything perking up and getting going again.
I spent 4 and a half hours on my lottie today and I would say about a third of it is tiptop now. Mainly weeding and removing intrusive raspberry canes. I'm tempted to dig up all the summer rasps and replace them with autumn ones. Much less hassle.
Planted about 200 sprouted peas - half Cavalier and half Norli (mangetout). Also planted some house grown cut and come again lettuce.
Unfortunately my hose has a hole in it so the watering was a bit perfunctory.
I intended to cover the lettuce with fleece before I came home - partly in case of frost and partly for the rabbits - but I was quite weary after all that time hoeing forking and digging in brilliant sunshine so left the fate of the lettuces in the lap of the gods. Oh and I broke my trusty hoe. :'( :'(

Okay, so a feed on my hunions this weekend is in order then. I shall get some sulphate of ammonia (I have some in the shed on the plot, but it got damp and I reakon it is just a solid lump inside!)
Chuffed with my onions this year. Growmore sent them to me and they are growing like crazy! ;D
My Japanese onions had to be moved earlier in the year & they all seem to have survived and are growing well but today i noticed all the tips are brown - do they need feeding with something - haven't got any ammonia of any description - will chicken manure pellets do any good?
Gonna miss all the best weather on the lottie this weekend due to being away in the caravan. So no change on my plot for a week or two.
