Hi All
I've just had a phone call off my local council to say that my neighbour is giving up her patch and its mine if i want it.
so i now have an extra 500sq yds to play with.
thinking of fruit trees and bushes for half of it.
Any suggestions???
Spuds.... then see what it is like... soft fruit as you say and either just more of your favs. or something you haven't tried before...
ENJOY!
:o
I'm green with envy! :)
Squashes and pumpkins? They need a lot of space and cover the ground well whilst you're making your mind up! ;D
Hi, mellor, A similar thing happened to us last year only the extra 5pole had a 30 year old shed that needed demolishing asbestos that needed specialist tipping plus a complete crop of horseraddish. Its all gone now and I`ve moved all of my Dahlia tubers there (50of them) made a modest strawberry bed and planted 3 dwarf fruit trees around the fruit trees I have seeded with wild grasses put daffodils, bluebells and various other wild flowers. Hoping that I can get away with strimming that bit and it will attract wildlife and bugs (I`m only allowing good bugs!!)
Same thing happened to me a couple of years back. I now have a lovely big permanent fruit 'garden', globe artichokes and a permanent runner bean structure. The extra room also means I can grow enough spuds to almost be self sufficient in them, grow enough corn on the cobs to provide the angels with cobs to last into the new year, and a lovely selection of squashes for all occassions. It is extra work though so you have to make a plan to concentrate on this or that each visit otherwise it is quite easy for one of the plots to suffer. Hoorah! Enjoy all your new space!
Die of over excitement! Build the poly tunnel, get bees, big greenhouse, another shed, more fruit, flowers, sitting area, erm.... 8)
Time for a pond?
cheers folks
had butchers at it last night and theres a small pond a greenhouse base ready and waiting.
so i think it'll be a couple of green houses fruit trees and who knows what else.
You lucky thing :)
I'd go with the 'permanent' stuff suggestion as well. Fruit bushes and trees, globe artichokes, asparagus bed, wild flower garden to attract bees, pond for froggies, vines in the greenhouse etc. Can you keep chickens on your sites? Or even rabbits?
You mean there's no waiting list?!
I know how you feel I have just been allowed the use of a 22ft x 4ft bed in a tunnel.
Have earmarked it for Melons, Watermelons & Butternut squash
