Father 76 uses one for cervical spondylitis and despite his doubts and reservations, he thinks it is the dog's doo dahs
I think they do give relief, but I found it had to be on for a long time and the wires got in the way. I was always a bit nervous it accidently turned itself up if I was trying to walk around with it but if course it never did.
I did find it worked very well with foot pain, it seemed to break the momentum of constant pain and I felt it was comforting, especially when on the pulse mode.
I have two, one is a NHS job and the other an expensive US model I had over there. There is no difference between them, in fact the NHS one is smaller.
I would certainly give it a good chance, I can give you the model number if you haven't got one yet.

I've got one at the mo, I've to try it for 2 weeks, see how I go and then decide..I'll let you know, jeannine..
seems to work on my hip, shoulder, knee and elbow but it's a bit wierd on my spine/ neck..feels more like little sharp pinpricks, bit uncomfortable but I'll persevere..will try it on my foot tonight in bed ;D
I used a non-obstetric one when I had a back/pelvic injury, and found it very useful.
I found you need to keep it on for a while turning it up gradually until the pulses feel almost uncomfortable, then keep it like that for 15 minutes and reassess, turning up again if necessary for optimum benefit.
I'm with you MV. For the 10 minutes I tried it, it drove me mad! Give me good ole labour pains any day! ;D
my friends wife uses one and finds it quite effective. Not entirely sure what is wrong with her, seems to be pelvic and back pain. Sorry to hear you need one Manics, hope you ok! x
OH has NHS one - was doubtful too to start with but finds it does give temporary relief especially during the night when he doesn't want to take more painkillers. He never "wears" it to bed tho (was advised not to) but gets up and sits with a cup of coffee - still says its a benefit, every little helps. Just glad I don't have the need.
well, it helps when I'm walking and standing in queues( went shopping today),
works on my shoulder while I'm on this..
does nought for my neck and elbow and is just too fiddly for my foot
this one's got only 2 pads so can't check out hip/knee at the same time yet..
the most awkward thing is the wires and making sure the bl**dy machine doesn't fall out of your pocket!! ;D
Not sure how effective they are for general aches and pains but I SUSPECT they'd be good!
Childbirth is an entirely different matter.
Who did one of those 'birth-plan' things they come up with in hospitals these days?
My 1st birth plan (18yrs ago) stated that I would like a natural childbirth without drugs.
My 2nd birth plan (5 yrs ago) stated that I would accept any drugs available (prescription or illegal) and had a disclaimer clause at the bottom in small print "If I inadvertantly kill or maim a member of the NHS services I am adequately insured"
My 2nd birth plan also included several requests that the midwives thought were funny enough to photocopy and stick on the staff-room wall: Something like "When I have given birth I require diamonds, a sport's car and castle in the country"
Unfortunately, they stuck it up in the staffroom whilst I was in labour. So I had a constant stream of people coming into my labour suite saying "I've read your labour plan - it's hilarious"
All I could utter was "F**k off! - leave me alone!"
can't remember my first, 33 years ago, I had that much pethedine, I was spaced out, second oly lasted 3 hours, last one, 26 years ago, lasted 12 hours, drugged up to the eyeballs again..strange it was the two boys who were awkward.. ;D
my daughter has made it known she will have anything she can get her, or anybody else's hands on this time ;D ;D
While I cannot vouch for them for labour... not having that pleasure(?) I have found it excellent for abdominal pain. I was very sceptical before I got it, but having reached maximum cocodamol and nurofen simultaneously without relief it has sorted it out... Mind I have to use it every day for the last 18 months... down to one or two sessions a day though!
A shirt pocket with a button is essential when gardening to stop it hanging by the wires around your knees! The wires do burn out every couple of months... the sticky pads every week to two weeks...
You can hire one to start with and buy it for a very reasonable sum if you find it helps.

did it work straight away, saddad, ray's thinking of getting one for his back, he's on co-dydramol and doesn't like 'popping pills'.. :)
I found it sort of crept up on me... you have to change the settings to find one that works but it can work immediately for some people or it would be useless for contractions!

Saddad, just a thought - not sure if you mean the pads lose their stickiness when you say they burn out? Mr W's has instructions that the pads should be moistened when placing them back on their plastic "container" and they last for ages. He's never had the wires burn out either - maybe you are more active than he is ;) ;D
