how disgusting, somehow slugs have been getting into our house and leaving horrible slimy trails all over our lovely new rugs >:(. They've also managed to much through a pile of bills left on the floor (well actually that's probably a good thing, hate bills almost as much as slugs!)
we have no idea how they're getting in
any ideas on getting rid of them?
close all the doors on the floor you think there in and using flour draw a line across each door on both sides which means if the slug ( mouse or anything simular ) cross if you will see the route.
When you have pinned them down leave beer traps out
have you got a cellar ? we have a similar problem and they come in through the cellar and also an airbrick.
Airbricks are probably the biggest culprits. Try putting copper tape round the airbrick on the outside of the house. That is what we did and also filled in any holes, however small, around the doors, skirting boards etc.
Saying that I think some are still parachuting in!
Do you perchance have a pet, they come in clinging to my Pekes fur sometimes XX Jeannine
I bring all sorts of bugs into the flat on allotment produce
even after I wash and trim things on the plot.
I live high off the ground so only creatures with wings can
get in unaided. You might want to check for any vegetation
growing around airbricks and boiler vents.
Best of luck, Col :)
will try them all - and yes we have two lovely fat lazy cats so it could well be their fault - plus air bricks, but no cellar - thanks for your tips!
Same problem here. We have a cat but it does not bring the slugs in or try to catch the little b*****s.
My solution in two parts.
1st night..Get up in the middle of the night and turn light on to catch them unaware and pick them up,then go back to bed ;D
Next day.... sprinkle salt along skirting board and leave for a night or two before vacuuming it up.
Had this prob in our old house. The horrrible thing was that they didn't seem to come in and out, (french doors to garden) but live in the room full time. Caught a few but there was always one trail every morning, never seemed to be able to catch him, even after putting salt the whole way round the room. When we moved out OH picked up his end of the sofa and SQUELCH! :P
anybody any idea what could be eating the flowers of my daffs polyanthus etc slugs?birds?
Thanks
If you've got slugs living in the house (as opposed to coming in on veg) then you've got a problem with damp. Deal with the damp and the slugs will vanish (they don't like drought), and potentially a lot of other problems will go as well.
Easier said then done in our old 1880's house ;D
I had a house in Liverpool 10 years ago that was built in 1740 and extended in 1820.
The old part had a cellar and the new part did not.
The previous owner was from South Africa and he kept snakes, lizards and other things in the cellar. When we went to view it we were taken downstairs and he had a lizard about 3 feet long wandering about. "Don't stick your hand towards it"
he said, "it likes fingers".
He also bred his own maggots and mice as food and left much of his stuff behind.
The whole point of the story is that we had all sorts of damp loving creatures until I realised that he had sealed every ventilation point under the house, which confirms the point about damp!
