Just spent the day fighting with canes and netting to make a 4m x 6m cage for some brassicas in the hope of keeping out the birds and the butterflies.
At best the end result is "functional" and the farce seemed to entertain at least one of the "old boys" ::)
It will suffice for this year, but I am thinking of building decent wooden frames with more substantial netting for next year, so that it can be taken down, moved and put up on the next rotational spot without my getting sunburned and bad tempered.
Any thoughts or suggestions from those with more experience than me - i.e. almost everyone!
This is my way of 'netting' my plants.
It is just 1" hoop iron bent to suit the bed width.
Have had these for years and there is a lot of years still in them.
The net is prone to rotting caused by UV rays but even that particular net will be in excess of 5 years old.

i grow more than wot i need so the wildlife can have some if they want,i would rather see butterflies etc than netting.
