Hello Everyone
3 Weeks ago i planted some broad beans in paper pots and positioned them on my kitchen window sill. They have become very leggy and have brown curled up edges to there leaves. Firstly can i plant them into my allotment deeper in the ground to cover some of the stem? and what causes the browing of the leaves.

on the kitchen window sill They are outdoor plants and the fact that they are behind glass particularly this weather the leaves may well have been scorched!!
Get them outside is my advice!!
Get them outside, plant a bit deeper and water in very well and then cross your fingers

Okra and Tee Gee are spot on, you do not need to mollycoddle Broad Beans.If you look at my site you will see they withstand severe cold including frost. I protect my overwintering ones from the wind rather than the cold.
Put your plants outside now at normal planting depth but to help them stand up, tie each one to a cane. You will get a good crop.

Broad beans seem to be one of the most forgiving plants of all, have sown them late this year (last week) but direct into the soil. Biggest crops I get come from Aquadulce Claudia sown in autumn, but for taste prefer The Sutton, it's quite short so doesn't need support, and they seem sweeter to me, sowed them in Feb last year.
