Title: Any one built their own greenhouse this season ?
Post by: KMARKSnr on April 01, 2007, 08:44:49
Hi all,
Managed to cadge some warped 3"x2" from the local builders yard, and also cadged some polycarbonate sheets from a glass firm that were chucking them out  ;).
Any way to cut a long story short,i`ve extended my 8`x6`traditional ally greenhouse to a 20`x8`greenhouse.What suprised me is just how warm it gets in there, reaching a steady 70 - 75deg`at this time of year.
If you are d.i.y orientated do try this,- i`m a joiner of 30yrs so it was simple "for me",but do try this if you can,- this greenhouse of 20`x 8`stands me at less than £10- in screws.

                        Best wishes,
                              Mark.

What do you cut the polycarbonate with? How easy is it to work?

Hi Rob,
I used a brand new fine toothed saw,and it made easy work of it.

                   Regards.

wow i cant wait to see a pic...

I am planning a small mini greenhouse maby 3ftx4ft with 2x2 and polyplastic stuff

This is because i have 3 mini greenhouses ( 3ft by 2 ft, and 2, 1ft by 2ft ) which i can use to make shelves inside.

I though 2x2 would be sturdy enough but its a very windy site what do you think?

If you were to start totally from scratch, how much do you reckon it would cost to build a 6x4ft greenhouse? We bought a greenhouse from the greenhouse people last autumn - it took a while to put up, but now looks great and is a big asset for us! Thing is, we're fast running out of space, so could do with building another cheap greenhouse...any ideas? The greenhouse we currently have is 6x10ft. I have one half, my dad has the other. It also has electricity now, with a heater (only keeping it frost free though) a radio and a light - it's becoming very homely!

Hi again,
It became "great fun",going out and cadging wood, polycarbonate sheets,- rummaging in skips etc, etc, and then to proceed to the build.
With regards to cost,- it will cost you as little as "you want it to",and size,- it will be as big as "you want it to be". :)

                    Best wishes,
                           Mark.
