I sowed some sunflowers inside a few weeks ago (maybe even late Feb :-[)- Claret and Key lime pie. They are now about 6" tall and starting to keel over. Having read through some threads on here, I'm guessing I satrted too early, and they've probably had too much direct sun, too. Is it worth trying to support them and keep them going, or should i start again next month or even May?
mine are the same size, I've buried them a bit deeper, not going to throw them away..just planted my giant seeds, 6 out of the last 7 germinated at the mo ;D
I soed mine about 3/4 weeks ago - they are about 4 inches tall. I had them inside the house to germinate, and assoon as they had, I put them outside. If you have a coldframe, you could perhaps put them in there as they are hardy. This would check their growth, and make them into more sturdy plants :)

Thanks. have put them in a cold frame and put some little sticks in to stop them toppling any more. Fingers crossed!
Haven't even started mine yet!
:-\
Only put mine into a cold g/house last week
just read an article in gardeners world mag, by sarah raven..pinch out the sunflowers when they're about 6" tall, you get lots more flowers but the plant doesn't grow as tall..mind you, she's planting for a cutting garden :)
Only planted the grandkiddies at the weekend.
I must get mine sown asap then. :D
