Title: Size of seed potatoes.
Post by: growmore on March 26, 2007, 10:08:02
I know we have mentioned this on here ..But there seems to be a big difference of late in some variates
I was planting the tatties I dig up early for new ones  1.5k of each.....The spacing varies on these as I  count them out and adjust  spacing so they make complete rows ...I set them in a 9 yards wide patch ..
Heres what I found ..
Foremost ..  26 tubers which I manged 2 rows...
Royal Kidney.. 28 tubers  2 rows again ,,
Nicola .... 15 largish tubers which I could only manage 1 row out of ...
Anyone else noticed similar ...
All were certified Scottish seed from same supplier
Cheers ..Jim

we've cut the big ones in half, as long as they've got a couple of eyes on each piece, they're o.k. :)

ooh, didn't know you could do that!
might help solve the problem of which way up to plant the ones that have chitted at both ends ;D
