Seems very early but some spears are an inch tall on my neighbours plot. I love this time of year :)

Make up your own but include these two lines
those tender shoots of spring I think
And yet you make my wee wee stink.
:)
Oh guys I hate to brag but we ate our first ones (well one first)3 weeks ago, I did post , we have had quite a few since then. They are in a very deep raised bed in quite a sheltered spot though.XX Jeannine
No sign of mine when I checked yesterday... the shade from the toilet block has set them back, it wasn't built when I put the bed there!
:-\
Really impressed Jeannine, mine aren't even showing yet. If you can do that up in Hull I should be able to do better here in Lincoln :P
Jealous?
It normally doesn't surface until the temperature is 50F. We are 42F at present. No hope for another few weeks.
If its sooner, it suggests to the untrained eye that it's planted to shallowly?
Not in my case Tim the bed is in it's fifth year and gets topped annually after the foliage dies down XX Jeannine
Strange, then!
We've got strange weather. When I went up last Thursday (just to check on things, as we were away for a couple of days), mine was just poking through, so I earthed it up a bit, just to be on the safe side. Looked OK this afternoon. Don't normally expect to pick until mid/late April.
Yes we thought so too. that's why we put apost on a couple of weeks back,we usually get it starting Mid April from this bed. Plats are Cito
mine should be ready for cutting end of next week
Not a scooby here - wasn't expecting it yet but now common sense has gone and I am just a bit (a very wee bit) envious, Jeannine :'( Last year was the first we could harvest any at all (well 4!)....
One row of my asparagus is about 6 ins tall which I protected when the frosts were forcast - and the other row has just one spear up. I only planted them last year so am very new at this - but glad to hear that there is other early asparagus around.
