Title: Are new potatoes classed as early ?

I hae some new potatoes ( Nicola ) can anyone advise me if they planted as earlies ?

New potatoes are those which are dug up before the skins have time to harden. They are normally dug up early in the season so yes, I suppose 'new' potatoes are 'earlies.'

If youer spuds came from a supermarket they may have growth inhibitors on them. It's a bit late for buying seed, but it's a better bet all round. 'New' potato varieties are all earlies.

Although not 'in the book', I agree with Eric - anything that you can rub the skin off is 'new' enough for me. Maybe not the gourmet's flavour.

And that can happen into the Autumn.
