Title: Cheap Seeds / Sets / Crowns
Post by: KevTetley on March 22, 2007, 20:15:11
I was told about seeds for sale in Lidl.  I went tonight and saw they have packets of seeds for about 35p!  This seems very cheap to me - I know they are smaller packets than others, but are they ok?
Does anyone have any expereince of  using these cheap seeds?

I have also seen cheap onion sets and asparagus/rhubarb crowns in Asda - are these ok?

Thanks

Kev

Excellent.  Two more questions, Asda have 'crowns' (?) for strawberries?  Are these ok or will plants be better?   Onion sets - does 1 set/bulb grow into 1 onion or more than 1?

A strawberry crown is the 'rootball' that we think of as the heart of the strawberry plant? The bit that remains when the leaves die off ...

I best value seeds I have ever bought were from Wilkinsons last Autumn reduced to a third of the original price and many were top brands. I had a really wonderful time sorting through them but, I just know I am going to run out of space.

take a look on e-bay, there are some deals that sound very good regarding seeds (has anyone tried these?).

Not tried for seeds but I did try to buy a rose that I wanted very much. No one had gone for it before me but then I realised how it works.  People don't make an offer until the last few hours and then the price rises rapidly unless it is the same price (almost) as one could get at main suppliers. My daughter and son in law thought it was a scream that I was so niaive.
