broad beans - and this weather
can i put the broad beans out this weekend or will this weather kill them off?
hi.
just looked at the met office web site
/www.metoffice.gov.uk
looks like the weather is going to get back to normal 8)
hope this helps ;)
I have had 2 rows in since the autumn, and 2 rows planted in the past few weeks that have just started to show though. I have had them covered with a fleece cloche and they seemed ok though we have not had much frost lately.
I would say if you have hardened the plants off and cover them with fleece they should be ok
Remember though, Im new to this! so maybe worth hearing what other people have to say

No frosts forecast for Northampton between now and 31 March. You'll be fine.
woohoo
Sorry to be a pooper but I wouldnt - if your soil is anything like mine then its cold and wet, not a nice environment for them to go in to.
I would wait intil the soil (rather than the air) is a bit warmer and drier just to aid their movement - once theyve adapted they will of course be fine, if you are in a hurry (and arent we all) then you could warm the soil a bit with some polythene.
I also have a bed planted out in Autumn and besides being a bit wind battered are doing well. Also put some seeds in Feb and they are also out doing well. But then I am in the Dorset area with better weather than most.

soil isn't water logged or excessive damp but is obviously cold from the snow, however the b/beans are hardened, might pup the first 'leggier' lot in to test the ground as you say.
I agree with a few on this thread and other threads about the condition of the soil.
In my opinion this is more important than the temperatures above ground.
I leave you with this thought! would you rather put your feet in a bowl of warm water or icy water??
Had mine in since the Autumn and they are well weathered but I would wait before getting any in now, as said above until the soil warms up a tad, they will soon fly up they seem to grow like weeds for me. ;D ;D ;D
Take it thats the beans and not your feet cornykev!! Tee hee! :D
well the leggy ones are out as touched the soil about 6 inch down and was warm, so will see how they do. can always plant more
