Title: Just had to throw this in..............
Post by: tim on March 21, 2007, 19:07:20
Years ago, I thought I was fairly cool with my 10" bedside TV. I bed early & only watch specials.

Then Channel 5 became inaudible &, soon after, 2 others became distorted. 'Expert' says no hope.

So?? The Web & a replacement. Not only is it 1/10th the size, but it also -  frighteningly - brings in 20+channels.

Technology!!!

We moved from terrestrial tv to cable over Christmas, as part of a package - our family now seem to spend a lot of viewing time watching the 'oldies' !!! available on obscure channels. I only see the television extremely rarely, so find this lot does my head in !

We had to buy a new TV as our 20 year old model blew up! The new model comes with a remote that I just do not understand. Too many options!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??? ???

....and, of course, it had to be a digi thing to allow for the changeover. The price reflects both that & teletext?

Aw, very sweet! I'm dreading the day my tv is no longer repairable. It's (only) 11 years old and has been repaired twice, both times just £40. Sure beats the cost of a new one.

I need a little one like that for watching gardening shows in the bath! Haha!

Tina.

Our television is around 12 years old. It lost its sound so I wired it through the hifi. Brother in law stayed the other night when we were out and was seriously frustrated as he couldn't work out why he couldn't hear anything :D

To think that I fought against the introduction of colour TV into our house in 1970!!

Our 3 year old Thompson went POP last weekend.  Frightened the life out of me!  Frightened the children more when on Sunday morning we told them they couldn't watch TV whilst eating their honey nut loops!  Fortunately for them, we had a spare.  Local repair man coming to look at the Thompson on Monday afternoon.  He doesn't charge for call out and he thinks it will be a 'transformer' or something like that which I can't remember, which shouldn't cost more that £90 all done.  Cheaper than a new one.  Why don't things last?  My nan is still using the TV that mum and dad had when I was little - no remote, great big pop in buttons, and only 3 of them!!

Too many things are designed these days to last out the guarantee and then break down. Like the kettle I once had which disintegrated at the end of the guarantee period. plastic simply broke down, but fortunately it was still just about under guarantee. I got it replaced with a model from a different manufacturer, with about a week to go.
