Hi on another posting some of us gradually slipped off the post on to a new subjest, I thought it might be a good idea to bring that here
It started with the poem Warning being shown and the RED Hat society was mentioned.
I am now curious about how many foks would join a Red Hat Society if there was one in your area.
If anyone is not familiar with the poem or the Society, we can publish it again here,
Lots of info on the net re Red Hat Society, basically for over fifty ladies who are going to live life to the full.
Please take a look. It is a blast!!
I also showed a picture on my recently finished cross stitch of the poem which I have re printed here
I have this poem pinned up in front of my computer (well actually a companion growing chart is blue-tacked over it atm).
they all think i'm slight eccentric at work anyway, so d**n them and let them be right !
;D

Having had a read, I am lining up some gals hereabouts for a Chapter!
Red hat, no drawers came immediately to mind here too Ace, but when you get past 50 the cheeks tend to turn blue with the cold. ;D
Never had a red hat before, red always made me look dead but don't care now and I've always had red high heels (tart) ;D

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
Used to have Red Hat Linux! Does that count? ;)
Wow, I became eligible to join the Red Hat Society yesterday!! What a conincidence to find a posting on it. I have seen the poem before but never heard of the society but am going to have a good look at the website. I was a bit stressed at reaching 50 but it doesn't feel so bad..... I think! ;)
I love that poem.... ;D
Very many congratulations and welcome to the eligibility status ;D ;D
Thank you Emaggie, I am getting used to the idea... One of the best bits of my day was OH finally agreeing to having an allotment ;D ;D ;D We have a large veggie patch in our garden but I have always wanted to grow more. I took him up to the allotments yesterday and he got quite excited, can't wait for the lady who organises them to come home off holiday now, before he changes his mind. I know we will have to go on the waiting list but it is real progress. ;D ;D
Glad for another potential Red Hatter. well done XX Jeannine
We used to have a really great down to earth Mayoress and the first time I ever heard this poem was at her funeral and you would have thought it was wrote for her!!
I have seen the Red Hat ladies several times at the London New Year's Day parade along with many American marching bands. A very enjoyable display>
