Help! some of my courgettes have germinated, and are huge! Didn't even know I'd planted any! Does anyont know if I can plant them out, with protection? Obviously not until next week, don't want to kill them off before they've had a chance!
Grow them on for a bit in pots, the soil won't be warm enough yet. You could plant them out in mid-May if you use cloches.
I made the mistake of sowing mine too early last year, and had to start again in April!
Don't sow mine till mid-April - when will these children learn!!

how old are you, knb ?..I'm flattered, I stopped being a child a long time ago and I'm worried about my melon seedlings ;D
I'm a tender 24, and my partner, Becky is 34. I keep being told I'm wise beyond my years, and was also born in the wrong generation - not quite sure how to take it! lol
I always start mine early and have no problems, but they do end up overflowing 12 inch pots before they finally go outside, it is the only way I can get some of rarer squash and melons to get the time they need. XX Jeannine
Not starting mine until next week
I agree Tim I sow mid April here too but I am interested by Jeannine's early sowing of melons. Maybe if I did that I might get a crop ???
Oooh - don't sow mine till beginning of May.
Does that make me very old?? ;) ;)
No room here to keep courgettes etc ongoing until they can be put out, so I'm a May sower too. But think will sow a couple of melon seeds early just to see what happens, got some last year but want more!
May sowing here as well, but no messing with Melons.... must look at some of the maturity lengths on toms... I know the 80+ days are none starters here!
