Dug this up today - can anyone tell me what car it was from ?

how do you know it's from a car, ray reckons it's from a roman chariot, worth a fortune ;D
I wont give up the day job yet - its got thread'd holes in the base.
Heres another pic

? Have a look here, loads of links... ;D

It looks like a car bonnet mascot to me :).
Tricia
It looks like the angel from a rolls royce but then again I'm no expert. It could be off a roman chariot like manic said. She usually has an eye for a bargain so if she offers you a couple of quid, its probably worth more lol
whatever it is i expect its worth more than what i found when digging my garden yesterday an empty tube of strong glue and a broken down seed module tray - nothing for the antiques roadshow ;D
The old man reckons a silver lady like you do Shirtlon.

our reputation proceeds us..if we'd found it, it would've been polished up and on ebay by now
think you're right, tricia and shirlton, deffo a rolls lady ;D
It looks very similar to the Silver Ghost car mascot, as she stood on legs. I believe it changed over the years though so they were perhaps different. I am only familiar with the very early one and it is bit different to that. XX Jeannine
What yer done with the rest of the car mate?
ye, keep digging ;D

Dunno but it's really lovely!
Keef ... is that a picture of you on your profile? STUNNING ;D
Nah, the f*g gives it away as i dont smoke (well unless im in the pub, and had more than 6 pints and the OH aint looking) - which reminds how long do we have left before its illeagle to slowly kill our selves with a nice pint in a nice cosy pub by a rauring (but possibly smoky) log fire ? ;D
edit : opps, it seems like fag is a rude word.

June apparently!
So who IS the bloke on your profile pic then? He looks just my type ;D ;D ;D
Eh! If this is a competition I'm in it.
KENKEW! You've got something unsavoury stuck to your shoe ;D
I'm not sure if it is a 'Spirit of Ecstasy' or 'Nelly in her nightie' off a rolls. She was usually leaning forward with her arms flung out behind her. Although as Jeannine says there could have been different ones. She looks very 30's doesn't she?
O.k, love things like this and got bitten by this. Keef, look at this site, I know it isn't one of these but how similar in design?

What is it made of? I would probably die of excitement if I found something like that. All I've found so far are lots of special brew tins!

I've looked there already - and its not there. It could be a bespoke one - ie not from a manufacturer, someone just bought it and stuck it on thier car...
I dig up loads of stuff on my allotmet - clay pipes, bottles, old cuttlery etc.. i even dug up a tiny china milk jug about an inch long (from a dolls house abviously) - it was'nt cracked or chiped and even the tiny handle was on one peice! If i can find it i'll post a pic.
Hey keef, I did check that it wasn't one of those, but the design looked so familiar to me, thought it would illustrate the similarity in era.
Have you considered everything you are finding is from same household, and is it definately from a car? Threaded holes could indicate it had a stand of some description and so could be from an ornament or lamp fr'instance?
Sorry, but brought up with mad collector family and Lovejoy wannabe as father. It's an illness i tells ya. Looking through my Millers now for any ornament that looks similar. :P
My dad had a 1954 Humber supersnipe......it had a lady of some sort on the bonnet.....I think it was a lady. He had it until about 1976 he sold it to someone who let it rust.
Stories like that make me want to burst into tears Kea :-[ ;D
I'm off to look for metal detectors on E Bay ;D Always wanted one as a child ... never allowed. Also wanted an Etchasketch and a pogo-stick. Seriously deprived background .... I'm still in therapy.
Always wanted one, got one but hardly used it, so I'm going to put some batterys in it and away I'll go. ;D ;D ;D
This is going to bug me now - let us know if you work it out...
It looks most like a Cadillac Hood Ornament - they seem to be the only ones with straight legs and the arms flung back with the hair - but can't find this one...
But I did find this:
http://www.lepoix.de/
Which suggests that it could be worth a bit if it's rare - mind you it might not clean up that well...
Its very badly pitted and all the plating has come off unfotunatley. I almost certain its what they call a barry boy enhancement now-a-days. There are still companies selling bonnet figures - that are'nt actually from any brand of car, just random designs.

You've got a battery operated pogo-stick Corny? ! ;D
I got nicked for speeding on it, the coppers put me on a CHARGE. ;D ;D ;D
