Hi, I have just been potting on in my greenhouse and have a number of Winter Squash plants to give away. I don't need anything in return although I won't say no to anything that is sent for my childrens group seed collection. I do not want the postage re inbursed by the way, I am just happy that they will be appreciated. They are my babies after all!!!
There is 1 only of the following varieties, they are all Winter Squash or Pumpkins and will keep several months in storage after harvest. There are no Summer Squash among them. You may not be familiar with some as I import a lot of my seeds.
All the plants are from seeds I have purchased and not grown by me or received in swaps therefore thay will be pure.
Apart from 1 they are all open pollinated and you could save seeds for next year.
Please pm me if you are interested.
Because it is a nice day and many folks are out I will confirm who will get them tomorrow evening. In the event that several people PM me ,in order to be fair I will draw the name out of a hat.
These are good strong plants, I will do my best to pack them well and let the new owner know the minute they are dispatched.
There are 16 different plants,I don't want to send them individually because I think they will travel better together but I may split them into lots.
They will be packed in plastic individually with a root ball.
They will need to be kept warm as it far too early to put them out, and they will want potting into 4-6inch pots on arrival.
Varieties are.
Australian Butter
Zenith Butternut ( hybrid)
Blue Magic
Sweet Dumpling
Anna Swartz
Greek Sweet Red
Early Golden Hubbard
Jaune Gros De Paris
Georgia Candy Roaster
Thelma Saunders Sweet Potato Squash
Jarrahdale
Triamble AKA Shamrock
Shishigatani AKA Toonas Makino
Jack be Little Pumpkin
Howden Pumpkin
Dills Atlantic Giant Pumpkin.
I hope someone is interested

;D
Saddad/Jeannine: Supersprout gave me some Triamble seeds last year but they never germinated :(
I'm trying the last 3 she gave me and mollycoddling them in the greenhouse. Have you got any handy hints on germinating and growing?
She said to sow them straight into the ground when frost passed but I'm a scardey-cat about that!
She also put a BIG notice on the seed packet saying "VERY RARE!!!!!!!!!"
SO MUCH PRESSURE!!!!!! ;D
Thanks in advance. Trixie XX
Supersprout was absolutely right, you can sow them right into the ground, I did in BC Canada, but it was warmer there by sowing time.If you are in a very warm area I would too, but I am in Hull and that is borderline for some stuff so I start in pots. Moist, but not wet soil or the seeds will rot, don't cook them but keep them warm, airing cupboard but check everyday. Once up give them light ,I have heat and light in my greenhouse but if not treat as tomatoes and keep them on a warm windowsill. If you have a conservatory that is great.. I start mine in Jiffy 7's ,transfer to 3 inch pots when they have only 1 real leaf and 1 peeping through. They are big plants.Pot them on as they grow, they end up in large buckets, so you will need room, then I put them out when it is warm and let them go.Don't pinch out the growing tips, this is an old European trick for melons under glass but not required in the field.
Good luck,
Jeannine
Thank you :) XX
