Title: Beer slops for fertiliser
Post by: onionhead on March 16, 2007, 18:17:33
Years ago I heard from a Good Old Boy that beer makes an excellent fertiliser (for his sunflowers, at least.) So I asked down at my local pub and the landlady handed me a gallon of real ale beer slops. Any thoughts on how - or even if - I should use it on the veg patch? Cheers.

By heck, that takes me back. My dad ( who would have been 96 this year) used to say that the best grass was beer fed. Maybe what he was refering to was the spraying of 'old' beer dregs onto lawns. Maybe it's the hops or the brewing process that makes it good for grass, either way, there's always some truth in these old-time and well worn phrases.
(Personally, I reckon it's the effect the beer has on worms!)
