Ace reminds me of when we first moved to the Fens. Our lorries often had to go to farms to pick up produce. We would often ask a friend (lived here all his life) if he knew where a certain farm was. Answered. Yep, go down ?? road go past Bill Smth's farm, another 2 miles you will pass Joe brown's farm You can't miss it. No road numbers, no farm signs up, no road names. Took son and husband months before they got to know all the farms!!

I shouldn`t be rude about the Fens-I live only a couple of miles away.

But further East they have a telephone directory-hundeds of folk but only three or four names.

You be a looking for Jones?-be that on his mother`s side or his sister`s?

Turn left down so and so drove, then when you come to the d**e turn right and ask again
