The soil was wet at the weekend but we have not had any rain since i am not due to go to the plot until the weekend but if its not rained by then and the soil is dryer do you think i need to water? ( lightly )
Its not forcast to rain for the next 5 days.
i am tempted to go up tomorrow and have a look but just wanted to know how other people plots are going?

It's drying out fast down here - we tried digging at the weekend but it was like stirring muddy water around. Today it was perfect digging - weeds slid out with a gentl pull, and the soil gave just the right amount of clumping! So, based on that rate of drying out, you may well have a point...
depends really doesnt it... Our plot is laid over a water table that even in the dry summer was still available to plants. I only watered in plants i put in on the day and left them to get on with it with great results.
right i will pop up and check on them tonight :-)

I dont think you need worry about your onion and garlic, the roots will be well down by now. This is particularly the case if they have not started growing again i.e. they will be on 'tick over' and wouldn't take water even if you flooded them.
You don't mention what type of cabbage if it is spring cabbage then the same applies.
If it is cabbage seedlings these will be settling in and don't need a lot of water.
Personally I would leave them.
HI
i might have to as all the roads home are currently blocked by accidents, re-routed traffic and roadworks.
