Title: Potting up melon seedlings?
Post by: Garjan on March 09, 2007, 12:10:04
My melon seeds germinated really quickly and the seedlings become a bit leggy.
Now I read in KG magazine that to grow giant marrows, you need to earth up the main stem.
Does that mean that I can pot up the melon seedlings and leave only the two first leaves above ground? They are the same family as marrows...
Is there someone who tried this?
Thanks.

You will have to progressively pot them on as they grow.

This will have to be done up to planting out time!

Initially plant up into 3" pots, sinking the plants up to first two leaves. After this plant out to same  level as in 3" pot.

Well that's good news, as all my melon seedlings are looking a bit leggy.

I've got 3 leggy ones, the others haven't come up yet.
I think I'll put them outside in the greenhouse to slow them down a bit,
and get a bit more light.
