Ok,
OH bought some rhubarb from garden centre as he is desperate to grow some.
Unfortunately got left in a bag, we were expecting friends round for dinner. These friends are childless and their house is immaculate ( however we have 4 and oldest is 7), so in a mad panic dash to clear up, I shoved everything into a cupboard.
Needless to say rhubarb did not survive, forgot all about it for a few weeks, have tried to pot it up but def. killed it. OH not pleased :-X. If anyone can help will be eternally grateful.
I'm away this weekend Coznbob but as Treasurer to a 12 acre site I'm sure somebody will be splitting a crown... quite a large lump for the post though whereabouts are you... just the nearest borough will do!
:)
I have rhubarb seed if you want some
Am in Hastings, would be happy to pay postage!
As a newbie am going to ask a silly question, how easy is it to grow rhubarb from seed? Never done it before!
I've never grown from seed before either... got the packet for my birthday. I imagine we wont be eating rhubarb til next year or year after to be honest. I bought 1/2 dozen crowns that did nothing in autumn and i bought another 2 live crowns which i hope will take. But i will be sowing today just in case.
I can send youo some seeds anyway if you like... just pm me your address.

Hallo Coznob, I think with your nice big family, it would definately be worth getting in some more Rhubarb, as once you,ve got it in and established ...well... you,ve got it forever really . just feed it a dollop of well rotted horse manure every winter / spring . It is one of the best value plants you can buy . Just dont pick it the first year to get it established . Yummy ! :P Rhubarb crumble ...mmmmmm LUV Rohaise x

Hi Coznob,
I think the postage cost may come to more than the buying price! Ask around any allotments and people will gladly give you a clump.
Hi there, think you may be right on the postage! Was a moment of sheer panic.
Anyway all may not be lost, was emptying pot of the 'dead' rhubarb today and found a tiny green shoot!!!
Quickly covered it back up, and am now hoping for the best!
Thanks all ;D
I grew rhubarb from seed and it worked out great ;D
Rhubarb seed in the post and on its way.
Thanks OO, got the seeds this morning, will be in a pot by the end of the day!
Do you need anything in return?
Would be pleased to send you something have spares of most of the basics.
The only things i'm after now are herbs, lettuces and squashes i think... have plenty of everything else... really no need to swap for anything. Hope they germinate... think i will do mine today... they are brand new seed btw so germination should be good.
Ok, I've got spare;
Mint
Parsley
Chives
Radicchio
If you want some just let me know!
