Nosegay
by Elizabeth Coatsworth
Violets, daffodils
roses and thorn
were all in the garden
before you were born.
Daffodils, violets,
red and white roses
your grandchildren's children
will hold to their noses.
thanks, triff..thought provoking :-\
Beautiful and i know just where you are coming from :'(
.. and the thorns will be about too...?
We hope!
Triffid that's really sweet. Where is it from, sounds like the kind of thing my gran would say.
Emmy, Elizabeth Coatsworth was an American writer. She wrote not just poetry for adults but also many, many children's books. Most of her long life (1893-1986) was spend in Maine and Massachussetts.
Nosegay is typical of her voice, if you know what I mean. She puts great depth into simple words.
