hi, i'm thinking about buying a kiwi jenny vine, anyone grown this before? if so have you had any luck with fruit? i live in Jersey, same summers as the south west if thats any help.
I saw one fruiting at RHS Rose Garden in St Albans in the late 90's...
Thought about one for home but it is much colder here in the midlands...
:-\
They have one growing at Upton House in Poole produced quite a bit of fruit
I've got some seeds, I haven't planted them yet.
I'll keep a couple as indoor plants and then try one outside when it's big enough.
:)
I have two kiwi plants growing up my lottie shed in Lincoln,
they are in leaf now,
hoping for fruit this year, plants been in two years, no sign of a flower so far / shades x
we've got jenny on the south facing fence in our sheltered garden near manchester, only 2 years old so no flowers or fruit here yet either :)
Saw one today on the side of a wall in Lotherton Hall, outside Leeds.... may pop in to see at the end of the season!
;D
I've got one growing outdoors against a south facing wall here in London.
does it fruit?
It's two years old, flowered last season, and looked as if it was starting to fruit, but I think the heatwave affected it. However, I'm expecting fruit this season.
I remembr on GW they planted a Kiwi at Berryfields and it fruited the same year - however, they didn't say how old it was when they got it!
I'd give it a go - I've got an orange and a lemon flowering and fruiting right now without any protection.
I planted Kiwi in my old south facing garden, here on the south coast. I planted both male and female vines and had fruit after 3 years. They have got quite hairy stems and huge hair leaves, quite red on the back ~ very attractive!
When i was last in Brittany, saw a garden covered in fruit, it looked amazing. Reminded me of when i lived in NSW, Australia and had passion fruit covering our fences!
wow!! it looks like i maybe lucky then, i think i will buy one, thanks for all of your advice xxxxxxx
Mine was in two years before it fruited. They do not ripen on the vine. Put them in a bowl of bananas and they will ripen in about 2 weeks. Don't do them all at once as they will keep for months.
They are worth growing just for the flowers and woolies have them for sale cheap.
