Title: peas and pigeons
Post by: RobsVeg on February 26, 2007, 19:37:17
Hi Everybody

Has anyone got any tips for keeping the pigeons off my peas this year as we seem to have hundreds of the feathered things hanging around just waiting for the growing season, is it a case of netting [which I have seen them get through with force] or does anybody have other ideas.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Robsveg I'm afraid that you will have to net your Peas well as the dreaded Pidgeons do love to munch on them, be aware though that they will land on the netting and jump about trying to flatten the netting down so that they can reach the young tips of your Peas so you will need to keep it well above the tops of your plants and also pegged down well at the sides once again well away from the plants, regards Steve.

Guess I'll get the netting and canes out but the recipe for peas and pigeons might follow, like I said they are lining up and waiting but they are not getting my peas.

Thanks... robsveg.

I'm sure somewhere I read that they do not like red  :D!!  Hate sky rate  >:(... now have decimated PSB  :'(

In building supplies you can buy that red plastic ribbon ... either criss cross over the top of your plantings or string it onto a tape in ribbons ... anything that flaps has to help   :)

Seriously though, being very new to this...What would be the opinion of lottie owners of a bit of pest control with air rifles?

I'm a bit of an off/on shooter myself...and the woodies get ate by the way :)

Just asking, don't castrate me or owt!
