I've just washed my old aluminium cold frame and a front glass panel has come loose.
I've struggled for ages to get the glass back in with the 'W' clips but I can only get one in and then there's no room at the other side to get the other one in.
I must have done it before a few years ago as I replaced some broken glass, but cannot imagine how I did it.
The other panels have four clips, but this one has only two (perhaps because it is so difficult)
Is there a trick to it or does it take two people to do it?
It's a Hall's coldframe but years old.
Sounds like something is out of square; Try putting one in at one corner then the next one in the diagonally opposite corner.
This should align the glass to get the other two in.
Best of luck
I think I'll need it!
Thanks TeeGee I'll try that. I think the piece of glass must be a little bit too big.
How thick is the piece of glass which is causing the problem?
My son got me some replacement glass for my g/house when several panes got broken a couple of years ago, when he worked for a double glazing firm. It was 4mm toughened glass instead of the usual 2mm? horticultural glass, and try as I may I could not get all the w clips in.
Diificult to explain but basically engage the middle part of the W first and then bend back and spring the ends in. Sorry if this dosn't make sense. ???
It's definitely horticultural glass, as it was cheaper than window glass.
I'm going to wait till the weekend and get OH to do one side at the same time as I do the other.
I think there may be a bit of swearing involved :o :o
Any success yet Vee?
